Story Hour & More

Wead Library programming and events are a fantastic way to develop learning, literacy, and language skills as well as build community with other families.

Be sure to check each monthly calendar to confirm dates & times for each program. Calendars can be found on the Event tab or in the foyer of the Wead Library.

Story Hour

Toddler Time will be offered most Tuesdays at 11 a.m.

This program is for children ages 18-36 months with a caregiver.

Enjoy this early literacy program filled with highly interactive books, songs, and activities. Please participate with your child as we develop language skills and learn songs, finger plays, movements, and rhymes.

Preschool Story Hour will be offered most Thursdays at 11 a.m.

This program is for ages 3-5 with a caregiver; siblings are welcome.

Explore stories with longer plots, songs, hands-on activities, and crafts that foster fine motor skill growth. Caregivers will learn tips and tricks they can use at home.

Family Story Hour will be offered twice monthly on Friday evenings at 5 p.m.

Engage in a story time that introduces early literacy concepts for children of all ages. This program is for ages 0-6 with a caregiver; ideal for caregivers with multiple-aged children.

Bookworms will be held twice a month on Thursday afternoons at 3:30 p.m.

This program is for ages 5 - 8.

Join us for an engaging read aloud for school age children including fairy tales, non-fiction, mysteries and more. This program is great for children who can sit for longer picture books and are ready to expand their literacy skills through book discussion. Caregivers must remain in the library.

Story Hour Guidelines

  • Please try to be on time.

  • If your child is under 3 years of age, please stay with them at all times. If your child is over 3 years of age, please stay within eyesight of your child. (This does not apply to Bookworms.)

  • Please socialize before and after the program. Story Hour is a great opportunity for caregivers to meet other parents in the area. Caregivers are encouraged to come early or stay after Story Hour to chat with each other.

  • It is completely fine and natural for younger children to have a hard time staying still in a Story Hour. They are welcome to stand up and move around! However, please keep them away from the personal space of other children and adults, and from the Story Hour presenter's books and other materials.

  • Sit, sing, & listen to stories together.

  • Toys create a distraction for all from the program. Please avoid them during Story Hour.

Stories & STEAM

Stories & STEAM is held twice a month on Wednesday mornings at 11 a.m.

School Age Children (Ages 6 -12)

Explore Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics each week through stories and hands-on activities.

Emergency Closure: If Malone Central School District schools are CLOSED or go REMOTE due to weather, the Wead library will be CLOSED. Additionally, early closings, cancelled after-school activities, or inclement weather may also impact the library's status. Please call ahead; if there is no live answer, we are closed.
