Wead Library Appoints New Library Director
The Wead Library Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Amanda Margis as the new library director, effective August 10, 2026. Margis brings over 17 years of public library experience in the Chicagoland area and recently relocated to the North Country. She has experience from previous roles as Assistant Branch Manager, interim Manager of Youth Services and Youth Technology Librarian. Margis holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from the Illinois University at Chicago and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Dominican University.
“I am honored and excited to serve the library and the Malone community as its newest director. Having grown up in a rural town in central Illinois, it feels a bit like coming home to join such a close-knit and welcoming community. I look forward to working closely with the Library Board and the staff to strengthen the library’s role in the community and innovate new programs and services.”
Community members can meet the new director while enjoying free ice cream sundaes, supplied by Bokie’s, at the annual Patron Appreciation Day celebration on Thursday, August 20th, 2026 from 4-6pm in front of the library. In case of inclement weather the event will be moved inside.
